Display settings

Colours, fonts, the week's start, battery display and the other choices on the settings page.

Everything below is on the settings page, with a live preview drawn by the same service that draws the panel, so what you see is what you will get.

Colours

The panel has six inks: black, white, red, blue, green and yellow. White is the paper, so every part of the calendar (the box, the day name, the date, the event times, the titles) can take any of the five that print, separately for today, the rest of this week and the following days; the start and end times can also be hidden. The month heading has its own colour, and today’s box can have a heavier outline. The preview shows the true panel colours rather than a screen’s brighter ones.

Contrast threshold is where every pixel of the drawn calendar is sorted into an ink: each of its red, green and blue parts counts only if it is brighter than this value, and a pixel with none that count prints black. Raise it and soft edges - smoothed text, emoji - print heavier and darker; lower it and they print lighter.

Fonts, emoji and layout

Six typefaces are offered: three sans-serifs (Roboto, Quicksand and Rubik), a serif (Source Serif), a slab serif (Zilla Slab) and a handwritten face (Patrick Hand). Each is shown on the page as the panel prints it, so you can pick by look rather than by name; the same goes for the two emoji faces, a light one and a bold one, the date boxes (square, rounded or round) and the battery corner. Long events can be shortened to fit on one line or wrapped onto two or three; the calendar reflows so that nothing is pushed off the bottom. The whole picture can also be turned 180° if the display hangs the other way up.

Always show today’s box keeps today on the panel even when it has no events, with a line of your own text in it if you like.

Week and time

Choose whether the week starts on Sunday or Monday, whether times are shown as 09:00 or 9:00am, and which time zone events are shown in.

Battery

The corner of the panel can show the battery as a percentage, a small icon, an icon with the percentage, or nothing. The icon changes least often, which means fewer redraws over a discharge. At 15% or below the corner shows LOW in red whatever you chose - even with the battery display off - because the panel is about to stop updating and that is worth saying.

Refresh times

Up to eight times a day. Each refresh wakes the radio and may redraw the panel, so pick the times your calendar actually changes: first thing, midday and evening covers most weeks.
